ELANAGAR (a) BALAPURI STHALAPURANAM

Thirumalai Thiruvenkatamudaiyan has been protecting all living beings on earth as Deity in the present era, called Kali. We get to know about the Greatness and miracles of Thirumalai Srinivasa Perumal not only from mythologies including the history of certain Holy Places (Sthala Puranam), Holy Verses by Sri Vaishnavite Saints like Azhwars, Acharyas but also from benefits that we get out of direct Divine Experiences in life.

From the Greatness of Thirupathi (Thirupathi Mahathmyam) we come to know about Tirumalai Nambigal (a) Srisailapurnar who devoted himself fully for service to Tiruvenkatamudaiyan by giving up the connections in the mundane life. Gaddam Thatha Desikan in the lineage of Thirumalai Nambigal followed the footsteps of his ancestors in letter and spirit by serving the Lord Thiruvenkatamudaiyan with total surrender. After seven years of unsalted diet (Lavana Varjitam) and Deekshai (Vapana Varjitam), the Lord Thiruvenkatamudaiyan appeared before Gaddam Thatha Desikan and told him to construct a temple for Him in five places in which he be preside with one hundredth of his power.

As per the Holy Words of the Lord, Gaddam Thatha Desikan with the assistance of his five sons constructed a temple in each of the five places namely (1) Elanagar, (2) Paiyur, (3) Vilan Kuppam, (4) Natteri and (5) Karumbur. The Greatness of Sri Srinivasa Perumal in these five places cannot be just estimated. Through hearsay information and also through generation after generation of residents in these places we get to know the Divine Power of the Lord.

It is since 70 years that Srivaishnavas living in villages inclusive of Elanagar village, started migrating to other places to eke out their livelihood. However, approximately before 300 years, for the purpose of propagation of Vishitadvaita philosophy few scholars moved out of Elanagar village and resided in Poundarikapuram, Gaddadarapuram, Thingalur, Urupppattur, Nelavoy villages. Scholars of repute in Vishitadvaita philosophy hailed from these villages and their contribution to Srivaishnavism cannot be easily erased from memory and history. On this score, it is important to note that even today these scholars and their families attach importance to their ancestral hereditary Elanagar village by prefixing in their title the name Elanagar followed by other titles in their invitations and Patrikas, thus establishing their indestructible identity.

The significance of Elanagar kshetra and other nearby kshetras, the remarkableness of the scholars who hailed from those places and their devoted way of life are to be imbibed by the younger generation and with this end, in view the elders belonging to Elanagar, decided to chalk out various ways. Initially they have resolved to make the younger generation to visit these places as often as possible. Creating memory in the minds of younger generation now, Elanagar’s mahatmiyam will be carried to further generations.

With this motive Elanagar Mahaneeya Acharya Purushas Seva Trust is formed. This was the ambition of Late Sri Elanager Thirualai Gaddam S Sampath Tathachariar (a) Pattanna (Retd. LIC). This swami’s contribution, tireless effort and prartana made things possible. The EMAPS trust is formed in memory of this swami. To make frequent visit to Elanagar, EMAPS trust is conducting few utsavaams every year, which could be the trigger for the younger generations to reach village, learn its gracious scholars’ fame and praise about its greatness.

They have been propagating Sri Vaishnava Philosophy and Sri Vishnu’s Great Miracles in many different ways..

7 AZHAGIYA SINGERS POORVIGAM

A special feature of Elanagar is that it is the village where seven Azhagiyasingers (to be exact 10th, 22nd, 25th, 26th, 27th, 30th and 38th Chiefs of the Ahobila Mutt) were born. Pillaipakkam Srimad Azhagiya Singer’s Mother Kanakavalli Ammal was the daughter of Elanagar Thirumalai Geddam Srinivasa Thathachariyar.
